The emergency occurred in the village of San Francisco, Piedecuesta (Santander), when the dog, who had just arrived at the family, attacked the 9-year-old girl, for no apparent reason, biting her left cheek, according to RCN Radio.
The 49-year-old mom immediately ran to save her daughter from the pit bull dog, but the animal also bit her until it tore off her right hand.
The neighbors, said the media, called the Civil Defense of Piedecuesta, which in turn alerted health personnel to attend to the minor and her mother.
The wounds were transferred to the International Hospital of Colombia, which after treating them issued a statement stating that the girl was treated by specialists in plastic surgery and is stable, but under observation for “risk of deep tissue infection”.
As for the mother, the medical center says there is no chance of reconstructing her hand:
“The adult woman was admitted with total amputation of the hand and the distal third of the right forearm. The orthopedics and traumatology group did not show reconstructable planes, ”the statement read.
The pitbull had been recently given to the family, said the president of the Civil Defense of Piedecuesta, Juan Carlos Garzón Rojas, quoted by RCN Radio, but lThey were looking for another home because they considered it very dangerous.
The environmental authority came to the place, but the dog was gone.
