Daniel Galán, the lucky loser who wants to beat number 1
Galán, current number 152 in the ATP ranking, made his entrance to the main draw of the
Roland Garros as a ‘lucky loser’, – a tennis player played from the previous phases to complete the main draw. His brother was in charge of luck after being eliminated in the qualifying phase.
After entering the tournament, he had to work hard in the first round in a five-set match against England’s Cameron Norrie. In his last outing he faced the American Tennys Sandgren, with whom he showed his best tennis of the tournament by beating him relatively easily with sets of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3.
“I have never played with a Top-10, not even trained. Last year I played against David Goffin in Davis Cup and I was nervous, I had seen him on television,” said the Colombian about the world number 1.
This will be an opportunity for the entire tennis world to see his talent and why he is Colombia’s number 1 racket. “Djokovic has no weaknesses, although I am not saying that he is invincible, otherwise he would never have lost a match,” DE said.
Galán is the first Colombian to reach the third round of a great since Santiago Giraldo played the third game at Roland Garros 2012.
