McAleenan arrived in Colombia in November 2020 to replace Eduardo Niño as goalkeeping coach in the tricolor. As a goalkeeper coach, McAleenan spent much of his career in the United States, although he also worked in Mexico and at Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
