Deportivo Cali achieved a momentous 2-3 victory over DIM this Sunday at Atanasio Girardot on date 16 of the 2020 BetPlay League, a match in which VAR once again took center stage.
With 30 points and a goal difference of +10, the Valle del Cauca team is practically classified to the quarterfinals. His offensive performance has a high note, because on any court he goes out to attack, but the defensive continues to cause concern.
This was the ‘sugar’ performance in the match against the ‘Powerful of the mountain’:
First time, attack: Cali was the team that set conditions from the beginning at Atanasio Girardot, based on the intelligence of Agustín Palavecino, the speed of Jhon Vásquez and the power of Ángelo Rodríguez. It was several options and the three goals from Palavecino (1) and Rodríguez (2) that showed the intention of the team led by Alfredo Arias.
Superior in ball handling: The Verdiblanco cast tied up the DIM with a midfield that recovered well and organized offensive game from having the ball. Andrés Colorado and Jhojan Valencia were not only firm in containment, but with notable passes they did damage to the Antioquia defense, especially in Angelo’s goals.
The awakening of the scorer. Ángelo Rodríguez has played two consecutive games as a Cali figure and in Medellín he showed that he has been recovering his scoring ability. Not only was he important in opening spaces on the attack front, but at 17 minutes, with a spectacular balloon to Colorado pass, and then at 38, after Jhojan Valencia was enabled, he made two goals that at that moment opened a long gap before the DIM.
Good performance by David González. The Paisa goalkeeper has responded with height in the moments in which they have demanded it, after his defense men lost to the rival forwards. Against Medellín he ratified his great form and prevented the ‘Powerful’ from scoring on other occasions.
The defense, to the board. DIM’s transitions from defense to attack were a headache for the medullary block and the visiting defensive quarter, especially after the Verdiblancos goals. The second half was negative for the four defenders, since
The Uruguayan defender Hernán Lessse was quite compromised in the hand-to-hand due to the speed of the Red attackers. At 22 in the second half, he became complicated in handling the ball and fortunately Escalante bounced it. He completed five yellow cards and will miss next Saturday’s game with Tolima.
On the time of addition in the initial stage, at 51 minutes, a bad rejection of the centrals after a corner kick allowed Escalante to get the discount.
