Despite wasting a good number of goal options, Deportivo Cali assumed the leadership of the BetPlay I-2021 League by defeating Pereira 0-1 this Sunday on the second date of the contest, at the Hernán Ramírez Villegas Stadium, of the Risaraldense capital.
The first minutes were played in the local field, to which Cali submitted through possession and with great security in the passes, but unfortunately he relapsed in what was his mole last season: The lack of definition, in actions that are listed then:
Jorge Arias demanded Harlen Castillo in a free kick that the goalkeeper ‘matecaña’ sent to the corner kick, at 5 minutes.
Bryan Castrillón tried to get rid of the green and white dominance with a shot that went wide. And in that continuation, Agustín Palavecino almost converted and Harlen Castillo stopped well, after a center from Jhon Vásquez, playing again as a right winger.
The next time Marco Pérez arrived with a center back, although Vásquez could not receive well and finished off wide. The superiority of the ‘sugar’ cast was undoubted, but it lacked efficiency, as Vásquez confirmed when he faced Castillo in the area and sent the ball outside.
However, after minute 25 the visitor lost control of the game when Palavecino changed sectors, and Pereira with great vehemence began to reach Guillermo De Amores area, especially with a right hand from Rafael Navarro that hit horizontally, after the intervention of the Uruguayan goalkeeper.
Cali made two nominal variants in the complementary stage to refresh its squad, by entering Carlos Robles and Kevin Velasco, but it was Pereira who was close to opening the scoring with a left foot from Cristian Flórez.
Ángelo Rodríguez and Rafael Navarro also tried in the rival area, with no luck. Angelo looked for a cross from Andrade from the left, but goalkeeper Castillo narrowed well, getting hit on the ground.
Jhon Vásquez put a measured center into the area, but unfortunately Angelo did not head well, in perhaps the clearest opportunity for the Verdiblancos cast. However, when reviewing the VAR it is seen that in that same action Bryan Castrillón is missing Palavecino in the area, so the referee Keiner Jiménez gave a penalty, which was converted by the same Argentine midfielder at 23 minutes for the 0-1 .
Kevin Velasco had another, alone in front of Castillo and threw the ball to the body at 32, when he could have taken it to the right or returned it to Vasquez. Those spaces left by the Pereira players in their eagerness to score were not taken advantage of by the Valle del Cauca team, who came out ahead by the slightest difference. Rodríguez and Arroyo were the last, although they failed again against a highly concentrated goalkeeper like Castillo.
The Risaraldense team has not defeated Cali since February 19, 2009, when they beat it with a goal from Julián Barahona.
On the next match against all, Cali will be local on Friday, January 29 (8:00 pm) against Envigado, while Pereira will visit Nacional on Saturday (6:05 pm).
