During the session held on Tuesday, December 29, the Metropolitan Board approved the 2.5% increase in public transport rates, which will be in force as of January 1, 2021 in Bucaramanga, Floridablanca, Piedecuesta and Girón.
According to the agreement, the value of the passage in the Unified Metropolitan Mass Transportation System was set at $ 2,600, with an increase of $ 50 with respect to 2020. The same will happen with the value of the passage in buses and vans of the Collective Public Transport. The new rate will be $ 2,600.
For the taxi service, the rate established for the minimum ride was $ 5,600, with an increase of $ 100 compared to the 2020 rate. The nightly surcharge was $ 600.
The Sub-Directorate of Transportation of the AMB explained that it presented to the Metropolitan Board, the alternatives of the study of rates, following the methodology of the Ministry of Transportation, and taking into account the provisions of the concession contract of the Integrated Mass Transportation System.
The prices of the taxi service to and from the airport had no adjustments and remain the same as in 2020.
Luis Fernando Sánchez, manager of Cotrander, spoke of the increase in the rate on behalf of Cotrausan, an association that brings together the companies Unitransa, Transcolombia, Cotrander and Transgirón, which occupies 65% of the collective public transport in the metropolitan area.
“We are satisfied with the increase, it will be a small part to cover the losses we have as a result of isolation and informality. However, beyond having a reasonable rate for the user, what we want is that the administration municipal and transport entities promote the use of public transport. We want citizens to use more collective public transport and not informal transport, “he said.
He also mentioned that these companies were the ones that asked for the lowest rate, since the proposed increase was 6%, $ 2,800. “We asked that it be reviewed so that the user is not demotivated and prefers an illegal transport,” he added.
Álvaro Pinto Serrano, director of the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga, AMB, said that “the increase was made taking into account the guidelines of the National Government and this year it has been atypical due to the pandemic, for which the economy has been affected.”
“We hope that the community will receive this new rate well, because with a minimum increase, which we seek to be comprehensive, people will use more public, legal and safe transportation,” he concluded.
