“The Ministry of Defense and the Police will cooperate with the competent authorities to establish the responsibilities of the case of the violent events in which Javier Ordóñez lost his life,” said the head of the defense portfolio.

Likewise, Holmes added that he hopes that the responsibilities, “which may be attributable to agents of the National Police”, will be determined “effectively” as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Defense announced that the Police will report this Thursday on the “Internal processes that are underway to strengthen the police institution and introduce the changes that are needed in order to have a stronger institution surrounded by support and appreciation from Colombians. “

In addition, he referred to the vandalism and violent acts that occurred in the afternoon and evening in various areas of the country. “Not only are they rejected, but action will be taken using the legitimate authority of the State,” he said.

For his part, Brigadier General and Deputy Director of the National Police Gustavo Moreno assured that the Police have issued instructions at the national level to “adopt all necessary measures in order to protect the life and integrity of citizens.”

The general added that “they will not allow excesses” and violent acts that threaten life.

These statements come amid protests that culminated in excesses in the capital and other cities of the country.
