The French cyclist David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) has won the seventeenth and penultimate stage of the 75th edition of the Vuelta a Espaa, a 178.2-kilometer mountain day held this Saturday between the Salamanca town of Sequeros, in region of the Sierra de Francia, and the Esqu Sierra de Bjar-La Covatilla Station.
With a time of 4 hours, 54 minutes and 32 seconds, Gaudu won La Covatilla, in the Special category, ahead of the Swiss Gino Mader (NTT) and the Spanish Ion Izagirre (Astana), second and third respectively.
The winner of the stage came out of the escape of the day, a group of 34 riders that formed in the first bars of the race and that was losing units.
The Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), who started the day with the leader’s red jersey and an advantage of 45 and 53 seconds ahead of the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadier) and the British Hugh Carthy (Education First), maintained the lead of the race.
The Vuelta a Espaa will conclude this Sunday with the dispute of its eighteenth stage, of 134.5 kilometers, starting and finishing in Madrid.
