For the judge, the president exceeded the exercise of his freedom of expression and opinion, violating the fundamental rights to honor and good name of the plaintiffs in their capacity as administrative officials of this educational establishment.
“Let me specify that the public corruption scandals in which some directors of the University of Cartagena have been involved do not authorize me, when expressing my opinion, to use in a general way the statement and qualifiers that I used in a publication made on July 31, 2020, in which I referred to said university management personnel as “a nest of corrupt rats”, therefore, I make excuses for the way in which I expressed myself in the aforementioned opportunity, “he says Dau’s retraction published on his Facebook page ‘Let’s Save Cartagena’.
At the time, the Academic Council of the University of Cartagena rejected and labeled as an “attack” the expressions of the mayor. Read: “Words from Mayor Dau are received as an attack on the directives”
“Mayor William Dau Chamatt must differentiate his personal opinions from the spokesperson that corresponds to him in his capacity as representative of the institutions and the people of Cartagena. Their unfortunate expressions make us miss the virtues that a leader must have to promote true changes towards a democratic and more inclusive culture ”.
And they added, “Mayor Dau Chamatt’s words are received as an attack on the work of the University directors who, with great responsibility and great effort, comply with the provision of educational services. We firmly believe that the role of leaders should not be exercised by replicating the features of verbal violence that cause damage in the private and public spheres.
