This Wednesday, the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, delivered to the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation the report that was released this week in which it is ensured that there were errors in the design and in the execution of Hidroituango that triggered the emergency in the tunnels in 2018.

Quintero will also report on the form in which this document was found.

The mayor assured that the document was hidden during Federico Gutierrez’s term as mayor, since the report is dated August 2019. According to the president, the text tells the truth of what happened in Hidroituango, “especially that those responsible they were builders, designers and auditors of the project ”, he stated.

Quintero says that the root cause report was concealed as part of a plan to prevent the contractors from being sued and to prevent prosecutions from the Prosecutor’s Office or the Attorney General’s Office.

“That this document was hidden favored the contractors, that is, the builder, the designer, the controller, because it eliminated evidence from the process that prevented EPM from recovering 9.9 billion pesos,” he emphasized.

The president also assured that it is impossible that information like this has not been known to the previous administration. In his opinion, hiding information so that a public company cannot recover resources could constitute a conspiracy offense.

He affirmed that he will count the time and place in which this document was known so that the Attorney General’s Office can carry out the investigations and identify who hid the report that showed the errors in the construction process of Hidroituango.

Quintero also responded to the criticisms of those who affirm that by presenting the document he is seeking political prominence and added that on the contrary, this is a step for the truth to protect EPM and to move Hidroituango forward.

The controversial document was prepared by Advanta, one of the project’s experts, and was hired by the Hidroituango insurance companies and agreed with Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM). This document will also be delivered to the Attorney General’s Office and the Comptroller’s Office.
