This Thursday, in the ‘Prevention and Action’ program, the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruíz, explained the strategy that will be applied in the coming days in Antioquia to deal with the spread of covid-19 in that department.

Ruiz met with the Governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria; the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, as well as with the other nine mayors of the metropolitan area of ​​Valle de Aburrá, to take short-term measures with a view, above all, to the match of the Colombian National Team this Friday and the holiday weekend.

As anticipated, the entire department of Antioquia will have mobility restrictions from 11 pm on Friday, November 13 to 5:00 am on November 14 to avoid traffic accidents and violent events.

On the other hand, there will be restriction on the sale of alcoholic beverages (dry law) from 2 pm on Friday, November 13 and curfew from 11:00 pm. m. Both measures will end on Saturday, November 14, at 5:00 am

In addition, a limitation of the pilot of bars in that department was announced. These establishments, as explained by the Minister of Health, will only be able to open until 12 midnight on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November.

“These measures focus in a particular way on the risk posed by the soccer match (between the Colombian National Team and Uruguay this Friday). In the previous soccer game we already saw the effects. Only the city of Medellín had to go up in about 60 beds and the number of these for intensive care. This is a drama for families and that is why our most important purpose is to take care of ourselves, ”said Mayor Quintero.

The president added: “This has to be a message of care. There are many people who still believe that this has already happened and that this no longer gives them or others already gave them. People cannot be trusted. This is dangerous and there are many people in intensive care ”.

For the community to comply, the Metropolitan Police of Valle de Aburrá will install checkpoints in the municipalities of its jurisdiction.

Currently, throughout Antioquia there are 3,357 active cases of covid-19 and the number of people recovered is 180,586. On the other hand, the occupancy of ICU beds in the department is 79.33%.
