At noon this Thursday, a heavy downpour of about an hour caused the roof of the General Hospital of San Andrés to collapse and the water began to leak.

The situation generated a flood in the area of ​​archives, external consultation and vaccination, which is in the north wing of the structure.

Regarding what happened, Gelmer Rodríguez, delegated attorney for health, who is visiting evaluating how the pandemic is treated on the island, commented that it is a regrettable situation that is experienced in the hospital.

“From the Attorney General’s Office we call on the National and Departmental Government to take preventive actions“added Rodríguez, who launched an SOS for the health of San Andrés.

It was known that the water began to leak through the electrical ducts, forcing all the personnel to begin to broom the liquid.

On the afternoon of this Thursday, hospital staff continues to work to control the emergency. This week, the new intensive care unit for covid-19 patients began operating.

The Attorney General’s Office pointed out that the department of San Andrés is going through a health crisis due to the increase of more than 776% in infections by covid-19 that in the last 30 days they went from 172 to 1,336 and 14 deaths. In addition, it registers 56 cases of dengue, twice as many as those identified the previous year.

For the control body it is urgent that an immediate intervention be achieved to the department, with the aim of preventing the number of infected from continuing to increase and that there are more fatalities.
