This Wednesday, President Iván Duque announced that this week the country would enter the mechanism in a binding manner multilateral COVAX, which would guarantee Colombia 20% of the population’s vaccines.

For his part, the Minister of Health Fernando Ruiz pointed out that 89 countries made the decision to participate in the COVAX mechanism, for the joint purchase of vaccines, which includes nine vaccine developments, which could be on sale in the first or second quarter from the year 2021.

In this same sense, Dr. Gabriel Carrasquilla, pointed out that this decision of the Government is correct, In this way, the country can access vaccines and, as it is a high-middle-income country, it does not have to compete with other higher-income countries.

Carlos Alvarado, director of medical affairs for Janssen in Latin America, assured that this pharmaceutical laboratory – which will test with volunteers in Colombia – has been developing the vaccine since January.

“We chose Colombia because we presented an epidemiological situation of active contagion, but we had high quality research centers,” said Alvarado.
