Coronavirus in Medellín and Antioquia: curfew extended – Medellín – Colombia

With the increase in covid-19 cases, in Antioquia, restrictive measures will continue during Easter Week and this time concentrated in the municipalities with more inhabitants.

Under this scenario, from Monday, April 5, until Friday, April 9, there will be a curfew in the 10 municipalities of the metropolitan area and in the Near East, every day from 6:00 pm to 5:00 am the next day.

This means that it applies to Barbosa, Copacabana, Girardota, Bello, Medellín, Envigado, Itagüí, Sabaneta, La Estrella, Caldas, El Carmen de Viboral, El Retiro, Santuario, Guarne, La Ceja, Marinilla, La Unión, Rionegro and San Vicente.

The dry law will also apply in the Aburrá valley and in the Near East at the same time. That is, from 6:00 pm to 5:00 am

With respect to the rest of the Antioquia municipalities, the curfew and the dry law will be from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am the next day.

“Today more than ever we must be rigorous and protect life, applying personal protection measures. We are living through difficult times but we are sure that we will overcome them thanks to the joint, articulated, coordinated work between the Antioquia Government and the 125 mayors, ”explained the governor in charge, Luis Fernando Suárez.

The occupancy of ICU beds continues to worry, in Antioquia it has already reached 90% percent of its capacity, while in Medellín, where the majority of these care centers are located, it is around 95 percent.

“We are going to suspend all outpatient surgeries because we are going to seek to free up human resources and attend more patients,” said Lina Bustamante, Secretary of Health of Antioquia, who said that six patients from Antioquia had already been transferred to other departments.(You can also read: The gigantic machine installed in Hidroituango to continue on site).

Currently, Medellín has 4,826 active cases and 215,035 accumulated cases, of which 206,362 (96%) are recovered. Classes will continue at home

The governor of Antioquia announced that it will be processed before the Ministry of Health and Education so that in the next two weeks there will be no face-to-face activities in public and private schools in the Aburrá Valley and in the Near East. In the rest of the municipalities the alternation will continue.

It should be remembered that in Medellín, during this Easter Week, the decision had already been made to suspend the alternation.
