What activities are prohibited?

According to decree 1550 of 2020, in no municipality of the country these spaces or face-to-face activities may be enabled:

1. Any event of a public or private nature that involves an agglomeration of people, in accordance with the provisions and protocols issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection

It also clarifies that “mayors in highly affected municipalities, with due authorization from the Ministry of the Interior and prior concept of the Ministry of Health, may restrict the activities, areas, zones and homes that they consider pertinent for the realization of a selective isolation and focused, according to the variation in the behavior of the coronavirus pandemic ”.

Can you drink alcohol?

The consumption of intoxicating beverages will not be allowed in public spaces and commercial establishments, which are common activities at the end of the year festivities.

But nevertheless, the sale of intoxicating beverages is not prohibited.

Will there be border closures?

Yes. This decree modifies article 9 of decree 1168 of August 25, 2020. Thus, the closing of borders is ordered for all land and river crossings with Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela from zero hours (00:00 am) on December 1, 2020, until zero hours (00:00 a.m.) on January 16, 2021.

These circumstances are exempt from this measure:

1. Humanitarian emergency
2. Transportation of cargo and merchandise
3. Act of God or force majeure
4. The departure from the national territory of foreign citizens in a coordinated manner by the Special Administrative Unit Migration Colombia, with the competent district and municipal authorities

Can you travel to other cities in the country?

Yes. However, the Ministry of Health recommends following biosecurity measures for road or air travel.

The use of a mask must be from the moment you leave your residence until you arrive at the destination., as well as constant hand washing, physical distancing and avoiding crowds.

What about Christmas shopping?

Although the National Government is betting on economic reactivation, there are still restrictions. In the case of Christmas shopping, the recommendation is to use virtual platforms and online purchases.

However, if it becomes necessary to go to a warehouse, keep in mind that All biosecurity standards must be met, there should be no crowds or more people than allowed, in addition to the mandatory use of face masks.

The Ministry of Health also recommends that, as far as possible, a single outlet be made to buy what is needed, in order to reduce the risks of contagion faced when leaving constantly.

How to celebrate on these dates?

The Ministry of Health extended an invitation to celebrate at home only with the family nucleus with which one lives, since meeting with groups and friends outside the residence increases the risk of contagion. And it recommended that, as far as possible, people over 60 years of age or with comorbidities do not leave their homes and avoid meeting with people who reside in other places.

When entering, wash your hands correctly and constantly, maintain a distance between person and person, prefer outdoor places or open windows for proper ventilation of the place, as well as avoiding the abundant consumption of alcoholic beverages that can lead to not strictly following the protocols and have a greater risk of contagion among the guests “, said Gerson Bermont, director of Promotion and Prevention of Minsalud.

Will there be a curfew and prohibition?

For now there is no norm that mandates curfew or prohibition in general throughout the country. However, local authorities in some cities in the country are already implementing measures for their territories.

In Cartagena, for example, the neighborhoods with the highest number of infections will enter a period of prohibition and curfew from this December 1 to the 15 of the same month.

On the other hand, in Santander a curfew was ordered from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am during the candlelight night celebrations (December 7), Christmas (December 24) and New Years (December 31) .

What about other social events, like praying the Novena and business parties?
