This Wednesday, 15,898 new cases of COVID-19 and 342 deaths were reported in Colombia. The Ministry of Health presented projections on the availability of vaccines expected for Colombia during the first half of 2021. Worldwide, the United States is going through the worst days of its pandemic, with almost three deaths per minute.
Today, January 13, the Ministry of Health reported 15,898 new cases of coronavirus and 342 deaths. With these figures, the country reaches a total of 1,831,980 confirmed cases since the pandemic began and 47,124 deaths. The number of people recovered is 1,665,003.
July 2021, the month in which Colombia would receive the most vaccines: 8.4 million doses
On the morning of this Wednesday, January 13, the Ministry of Health organized a brief training on the National Vaccination Plan for COVID-19. It was addressed to journalists and was presented by the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz; by Gerson Bermon, director of Promotion and Prevention, and by Julián Fernández Niño, director of Epidemiology and Demography.
In just over an hour, they summarized, again, how this plan has been built, what are the phases that compose it and what the logistics will be to manage the biologicals. Although most of what they showed had already been exposed in the document published by Minsalud last week, they revealed some new details. The main one has to do with the number of doses the country will receive this year.
Despite the fact that these figures may vary, the projection of this portfolio shows that the country will receive doses gradually. In February, possibly 850 thousand doses will arrive and weeks later another 3 million 862 thousand. In April, another million 800 thousand will arrive and then almost 8 million more. The Minsalud expects the highest number of doses to arrive in early July: 8 million 431 thousand 567 doses. (You can read the full note here)
Asymptomatic people transmit the coronavirus in 59% of cases
As COVID-19 began to spread around the world, scientists noted that, unlike the coronavirus that caused the 2003 outbreak, the spread of SARS-CoV-2 could not be contained by detection based solely on symptoms.
According to scientific publications of the time, asymptomatic and clinically mild infections were rare in SARS-CoV 2003. Furthermore, no cases of transmission were reported before the onset of symptoms. However, the new coronavirus spread more rapidly than the old one, and tests have shown that it does spread from people without symptoms. The worst days of the pandemic in the United States: three deaths per minute
Almost three deaths per minute and about 4,500 deaths from covid-19 in one day. The United States continues to record sad records in the midst of the worsening pandemic around the world, including in China, where tens of millions of people are once again confined.
This shocking daily figure is almost the same as the total death toll from the pandemic in China (4,634), where the pathogen was first identified at the end of 2019. In total, the United States already registers more than 380,000 deaths and 22, 8 million infections. (You can see: The worst days of the pandemic in the United States)
