2021 is a promising year in sports for the country. In addition to the BetPlay League I and II, the Copa América is expected to be held in Colombia, after this event, which was scheduled for 2020, was postponed due to the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
However, the high rate of infections in the country and throughout the South American region, has in doubt the realization of this competition of national teams, since, if the figures do not decrease, it is likely that local authorities will prevent the entry of the public to stadiums; reason that does not end to like in Conmebol, taking into account the magnitude of the event.
“It has not yet been confirmed if the Copa América will be held because Conmebol does not want the tournament without an audience. It is a capacity that serves to have a Copa América. If there is no Cup we have more space until June and July to finish the BetPlay Dimayor League, “explained Fernando Jaramillo, president of Dimayor and member of the FCF executive committee, in a dialogue with Caracol Radio.
And he added: “We have been working in the 2021 pandemic scenario, posing the worst situation to be able to prepare. Players, coaches and clubs have to start thinking about a very different budget than they had before. This is going to leave consequences, in fact the confederation already had to face complicated situations. “Said the executive.

In the same talk with El Carrusel, from Caracol Radio, the president referred to what the year of Colombian football will be, emphasizing that, until the contagions in the country decrease, you cannot think of the fans in the stadiums.
“There is a difficult time in Colombia due to the pandemic and the curve, but let’s hope it will be solved and that in March or April we can be talking about a responsible capacity for Colombian soccer matches. We continue with the challenge of starting the tournament at a difficult time, it is not easy but the clubs are working for that. “
“We have the guarantees, we are going to start a different year with two semesters and that will generate income that we did not have last year. There is a deficit due to tests and other logistical issues as expenses increased by 14 or 15 percent, “he explained.
Finally, regarding the women’s league, Jaramillo affirmed that the competition will continue in 2021, stating that they are still looking for new sponsors.
“We have to see who are the teams that are committed, I am happy with having had the Women’s League last year, the results are getting better and better, the quality is high. “
“In March there is the Copa Libertadores and we have to plan that taking into account how many teams are going to play, there is a commitment from the National Government and they will be in charge of sponsoring the League but I do want to find more sponsors so that this is something safer. We have great potential, “he concluded.
