The clashes between some citizens and members of the National Police generated a new political confrontation between the former presidential candidate Gustavo Petro and sectors of Uribismo.
On Wednesday night several citizens protested the death of the lawyer and taxi driver Javier Ordóñez, happened after an operation after which two members of the National Police have been accused of police brutality.
However, the citizen protests degenerated into acts of violence, such as the burning of several CAIs in different parts of Bogotá and alleged attacks by some members of the Police against those who were protesting.
On the same Wednesday night, Petro published several videos of citizens pointing out these attacks to the Police and in some of them he posted messages about the alleged actions of the authorities.

“They have committed a massacre against the unarmed people of Bogotá ”, was one of the messages from the left-wing senator.
Faced with this, various sectors of Uribismo reacted. Senator Paloma Valencia affirmed that Petro’s “slogan” was “destruction.” and that “rejoices in violence and incites hatred.”
Senator for the Democratic Center Fernando Araújo affirmed on the same Wednesday night that the left-wing senator was “promoting disobedience that ends in vandalism.”

On the morning of this Thursday, Petro referred to the allusions of uribism and stated: “The official number of murdered in Bogotá rises to 8 with Javier Ordóñez. Uribismo tries to blame us for the facts. They have built a security policy based on death, they have led the police to be a lethal force and not a civilian and they have led the country to a dictatorship ”.
In the Senate session on Wednesday night, The former presidential candidate called for the resignation of Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo, and called on Congress to “initiate pressure for a democratic reform, deep, respectful of human rights and civil liberties to the National Police.”
