He Congress of the republic approved this Wednesday the extension of the Formal Employment Support Program (Paef) until March 2021, after reconciling the texts approved by the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Republic.

The text of the bill, which now passes for presidential approval, also approved the extension of the Service Premium Payment Support Program (PAP), that will benefit workers who earn up to one million pesos and who work in companies that have seen their turnover affected by 20 percent (or more) due to the economic contingency generated by the pandemic.

During his ‘Prevention and Action’ program, President Iván Duque celebrated the decision and assured that “it is great news for Colombians. I want to highlight that more than 91% of the benefited companies have been medium and small companies that have 50 employees ”.

The project approved by Congress includes an increase from 40% to 50% of the payroll subsidy exclusively for the women who work in companies that have seen their turnover affected by 20% or more. This 50% subsidy will also apply to companies in the tourism, gastronomy, hotel, arts, entertainment and recreation sectors, which were the hardest hit by the crisis.

Men who work in this type of company will also receive the benefit, but the subsidy in the current legal minimum wage will be 40%.

In that order of ideas, benefited companies will receive seven additional payments corresponding to the months of September, October, November, December 2020, and January, February and March 2021.

Similarly, those firms that request it will receive a contribution, from the State, of 50 percent for the payment of the end of 2020 premium, of its employees who earn up to a million pesos.

In his passage through Congress, the Paef It received other changes, such as the inclusion of autonomous patrimonies as possible beneficiaries of the programs.

President Duque, during the broadcast on Wednesday, reported that Paef will benefit 3.2 million workers in the country. In the program, it was also known that the Ministry of Culture will have the highest budget in its history in 2021.

The Head of State explained that the budget of 440 billion pesos in 2021 is added to the “about 2.1 billion pesos that we will have in 2020, 2021 and 2022 in terms of tax incentives.”
