There is commotion in the municipality of El Rosal, Cundinamarca, for the brutal feminicide of Sandra Milena Saldaña, 25 years old. Her ex-boyfriend, Miguel Alfredo Arenas Flórez, 31 years old, would be responsible for the crime.
The Government of Cundinamarca offered a reward of 20 million pesos for information that helps to find the whereabouts of this homicide. There is even a requirement from Interpol to prevent him from leaving the country.
The Sandra Milena’s family ensures that there was negligence on the part of the authorities, because the young woman had already denounced Miguel Alfredo for physical and psychological abuse.
“She was being threatened for three or four months before separating, he mistreated and humiliated her and she warned the companions and sent audios that he was hitting her,” said a relative of the victim.
“She had already gone to the El Rosal police station, she commented that he had hit her and the one who attended her told her that if he hit her again, to warn her again and they did nothing, they waited for them to kill her to do something, that seems unfair to me, “denounced the woman who preferred to reserve her identity.
The 25-year-old’s family demands justice for her and for all the women in the country who are abused:
“If one is a woman and they are mistreating him, they should take care of him, that they listen to him, because one is asking for help, that they help him, that they defend him, because somehow we women suffer from fear.”
According to the high councilor of the presidency for gender equality, between January and August 2020 there have been 115 feminicides registered in Colombia. While during 2019 there were 173.
Sandra Milena’s family and the El Rosal community held a demonstration to reject this femicide.
