The mountains are coming to the 2020 edition of the Tour de France, the most important race in cycling, and great emotions are expected. Perhaps the attacks of the great favorites such as Egan Bernal and Primoz Roglic have not yet arrived, but surely there will be cyclists who, with the desire to test their strength, will enter to set a strong rhythm for the Ineos and the Jumbo-Visma. It is worth remembering that both the Colombian and the Slovenian came to the Tour with some physical discomfort.
Sunday’s stage will be characterized by its 186 kilometer route in which the mountain will appear and cyclists will have to climb an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters. It will have three mountain prizes, two of the first category, the first Col de la Colmiane of 16.3 kilometers and with an incline of 6.3% and the second in Col de Turini of 14.9 km and a percentage in its ramp of 7.4%. In addition, the fraction will have a second-class port Col d’Eze and will end on the flat.
For the second stage, with the appearance of the always difficult ascents, it is also expected that the prominence of Colombian riders will appear, mainly that a rider like Sergio Higuita can impose his race rhythm, also in his goal of leading Rigoberto Urán in what is part of the EF strategy. Others who will try to recover lost ground in the mountains will be Nairo Quintana, Rigo himself and Miguel Ángel López.
Higuita is the best of the beetles so far: the one from Education First came in sixteenth position and is 10 ”seconds behind UAE Team Emirates leader Alexander Kristoff. The Norwegian leads the general classification after dedicating himself in the first outing with a time of 3 hours, 46 minutes and 23 seconds. Higuita will be able to get his breed already demonstrated in the Tour Colombia 2.1, in which he even won over Egan Bernal.
The defending champion of the Tour de France, Egan Bernal, is in position 45 to 16 ”seconds from the lead, while Nairo Quintana is 59 with a lost time of 1 ‘minute and 25” seconds.
