Guidelines to prevent violence in the temporary shelters of the Ministry of Health

Due to the emergencies that have occurred in the country due to the winter wave and that have affected many families who have had to stay in temporary shelters, “one of the possible scenarios is that situations of tension and conflicts could escalate that could lead to expressions of violence, which mainly affect women, children and adolescents, ”the Ministry said in a statement.

This was stated by the coordinator of the Population and Development Group, Ana María Peñuela, who indicated that “emergencies and natural disasters have a different impact on women compared to men, because they must continue to assume the traditional roles of caring for their family, more intensely in shelters and in unsuitable or difficult conditions, so their situation of vulnerability may increase ”.

Similarly, he pointed out that “it is important to take into account some guidelines for the prevention of violence and especially gender violence and sexual violence in shelters or shelters.”
