In Venezuela “there are six million Colombian migrants and they have never needed a provisional protection treaty. They have never needed any ‘clown’ that Duque is trying to wash his face” before the international community, Maduro added at a press conference in the Palace. from Miraflores.

In this same sense, it sentences that “the Temporary Statute for the Protection of Migrants reflects Colombia’s commitment to support the reconstruction of the life projects of our Venezuelan brothers who have seen the need to leave their country.

On February 8, the Colombian government announced that it will grant a legal status of temporary protection for 10 years to Venezuelan migrants to try to alleviate the humanitarian crisis they are suffering, a measure that days later was supported by the Pope Francisco.

According to Migración Colombia, by December 31, 2020, within the national territory there would be more than 1,729,000 Venezuelan migrants, equivalent to a little more than 34% of the total number of Venezuelans who, according to the figures provided by the Organization of the United Nations, have left their country and of this total, about 56%, a little more than 966 thousand would be in irregular condition.

It is estimated that the Temporary Protection Statute could benefit more than two million Venezuelans who have been forced to leave their country, given the economic, social and humanitarian crisis that Venezuela is going through.
