Colombia passes the barrier of 43 thousand deaths from Covid-19

Colombia closed 2020 with a record of 16,314 new cases of covid-19 that brought the number of people who have contracted the disease to 1,642,775, while on Thursday it reported 304 deaths for a total of 43,213 fatalities from the pandemic.

The number of infections is higher than the highest registered so far since the first case was reported on March 6, which was 14,941 on December 25, while the number of deaths is the highest since September 1 when they were reported 389.

To date, 86,777 cases remain active in the country, that is, 5.28% of those reported, while 1,508,419 appear as recovered, which is equivalent to 91.82%.

Regarding new infections, the regions that accumulate the most are Bogotá (6,244), Antioquia (2,042), Valle del Cauca (1,345), Atlántico (994), Cundinamarca (907), Risaralda (655) and Santander (548).

Likewise, Tolima (445), Bolívar (368), Boyacá (316), Nariño (294), Norte de Santander (278) and Cesar (272) had high data.

During the day there was also a record of processed tests with 83,539, of which 34,015 type PCR and 49,524 of antigens, for a total of 8.13 million tests performed.

As for the deaths, of which 271 correspond to previous days, occurred in Bogotá (87), Norte de Santander (29), Antioquia (28), Tolima (19), Valle del Cauca (18), Cundinamarca (17) and Atlántico (14).

The rest occurred Bolívar and Huila (12); Narino (9); Quindío (8); Goal (7); Magdalena (6); Boyacá and Risaralda (5); Caldas and Cauca (4); Cesar (3), and Arauca, La Guajira and Putumayo (1).

With the figures for this Thursday, the regions that end 2020 with the most accumulated cases of coronavirus are: Bogotá (471,155), Antioquia (261,592), Valle del Cauca (137,867), Atlántico (93,975), Cundinamarca (67,160) and Santander ( 67,114).

Given the increase in infections, the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, made a “vehement call” for citizens to take care of themselves this December 31 because there are five or six cities with a “peak” and increasing infections.

“What we do these days is essential to avoid additional growth in cases. It is a responsibility in which we must avoid meetings that are not with family members, not visit older adults, wear face masks permanently, guarantee the ventilation of homes and not participate in meetings that are not essential, “he said.
