For truth, time. The only moment in which a process was respected, there was space to support it with results and certain steps of progress were taken on the international stage was with José Pékerman sitting on the bench of the Colombian National Team.
Taste, style and a long list of subjectivities ended, in September 2018, in a hateful and almost disrespectful exit that ended with a slamming door with the Argentine cycle.
Many appealed later, with the arrival of Carlos Queiroz, to the need to ‘modernize’ the style of the team, to make it more ‘European’, to give it a leap in quality than today, after almost two years and with a fatal win 6 -1 against Ecuador in tow, it seems destined, inevitably, to its end.
And then we talk again about the deck, what is appropriate or not and, more than anything, what can or cannot be achieved in the market, taking into account that not only are there contracts in force but also, in days of crisis, millionaire fines and pandemic, and the wealth of resources of yesteryear is a distant memory.
Candidates with great support, such as Reinaldo Rueda, are not available despite the irregular results he has with Chile: negotiating his exit is not an option, if it would be possible if he himself ended his bond there. But it is not easy precisely because of the lack of resources already mentioned and because, a curious coincidence, just as it is so expensive to leave Queiroz in Colombia, it is very expensive to do without Rueda in Chile.
But precisely a version that circulates in Santiago, specifically in the newspaper La Cuarta, opens an option that did not seem impossible but that now, due to the circumstance, could be considered: the return of Pékerman.

It is worth remembering that Pékerman directed 78 matches, between officials (World Cup, Qualifiers and America’s Cup) and friendlies. He won 42, drew 20 times and had 16 defeats. With Pékerman in charge, the Colombian National Team scored 124 goals and received 59. His performance was 62.3%. But more than that, it was the coach who returned the team to the World Cup after 16 years of fasting and the one who secured two participations, with Brazil (fifth place) being the best in the entire history of the country.
