Colombia could lose the Copa América 2021 if they do not authorize the entrance of the public

Conmebol announced a few days ago the new calendar for the Copa América 2021, in which Bogotá was left without a match for the Colombian National Team, although the pertinent steps are being taken so that they do grant him a ‘Tricolor’ game in this competition.

However, that this tournament will be played in Colombian territory is not 100% guaranteed.. According to the specialized journalist Carlos Antonio Vélez in Antena 2, there is still the possibility that the maximum entity of South American football will take the Copa América for another country, no matter what it is.

“I am able to report that if there is no public, there will be no competition,” he assured without hesitation; “I have it confirmed,” he added.

The experienced journalist said that “despite announcing the calendar, Conmebol wants to warn that everything is organized, but it only wants to be authorized to have an audience. If Argentina does not allow people in the stadiums, they will give the venue to someone else. If Colombia does not provide the authorization, they will look for another country, to anyone, but let the public enter ”.

The idea of Conmebol is to have at least 30% of the capacity in the stadiums. In fact, Vélez said that Bogota was taken away from that game in Colombia because it is the smallest stadium of the four that will host the Copa América.

The rulers of the country’s capital are those who have shown the strongest position on not opening stadium doors for fans. Medellín and Barranquilla have been more open to allowing public access and, in fact, in the capital of the mountain, they already allowed a handful of fans to enter the Colombia Cup match and advanced the management so that the match of National vs. Medellín, which will be played on March 27, has an audience, although it is not yet confirmed.
