A few days after the European Parliament gives the final approval for the application of the trade agreement that materializes the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, in the midst of what is known as Brexit, Colombia passed Law 2067, which it will allow the preservation of commercial relations with this country.

According to the signed document, Colombia recognizes the pact signed between the European Union and the United Kingdom, and it is for this reason that it will seek to preserve the rights and obligations agreed between the European nations.

The Law, which is part of the diplomatic understanding between countries, was also accepted simultaneously by the Andean countries Ecuador and Peru, with the aim of not affecting commercial benefits for the region.

The European Parliament is expected to meet on December 28 to ratify the agreement reached between the United Kingdom and 27 European nations, after a long period of negotiation.

The Brexit agreement would take effect from January 1, 2021, with the aim that none of the European economies are affected. The agreement includes the reciprocal opening of markets without import tariffs.
