The Colombian National Team will return to the ring this Friday, November 13, in the South American qualifiers. The group of Carlos Queiroz will receive Uruguay in the Metropolitan of Barranquilla.
For this match of the third day, both teams will have extremely important losses. Injuries and covid-19 are responsible. Of course, the Uruguayans have been the most affected.
Uruguay, affected in its spine
So far, five casualties are known for Óscar Washington Tabárez, all important.
First it was Martín Cáceres, who would be prevented from traveling from Italy due to the positive case in his Fiorentina team; Federico Valverde, the midfielder, was injured in his last game with Real Madrid and he was diagnosed with a “fissure in the posterior tibial spine of his right leg”; Maxi Gómez was also injured that match with a “severe trauma to his right knee.”
Sebastián Coates are also affected by a pubalgia, his team recommended him not to travel, and goalkeeper Martín Silva, injured with Libertad de Paraguay.
Just this Monday, Tabárez summoned the replacements for Valverde, Silva, Coates and Gómez, thus waiting until the last moment for Cáceres. Yonatan Irrazabal (goalkeeper), Alexis Rolín (central defender) and Gabriel Neves (midfielder) entered the squad.
Despite the fact that the substitutes for each one were met, the spine of the Uruguayan team was greatly affected. Both Valverde and Cáceres were undisputed starters in the first two days, Gómez scored the winning goal against Chile and Silva is Campaña’s natural replacement.
Colombia, without its historic scorer
The Selection was affected more than everything in its attack zone. Radamel Falcao García, Jhon Córdoba and Rafael Santos Borré were the main last-minute casualties.
Falcao suffered playing with Galatasaray and days later a “moderate tension in the upper right anterior muscle group” was detected, fortunately this Monday they confirmed that his recovery is on the right track.
Córdoba had to leave during the last Hertha Berlin game and was diagnosed with a ligament injury in his left ankle. He even put on a protective boot to start his recovery process.
Finally, Santos Borré tested positive for covid-19 and therefore must comply with mandatory isolation.
