On the first Sunday of 2021, the people of Atlantis turned to the beaches. The large influx of visitors led the authorities of Puerto Colombia to order the closure of the entrance roads and the beaches, due to compliance with the capacity.
A journalistic team from EL HERALDO made a tour of the area and was able to verify the vast influx of people in the area, as well as vehicular chaos on the sector of entry to the town of Salgar.
Leonel Morón, Secretary of Government, explained that the measure became effective around noon this Sunday to avoid crowds in the tourist area, in order to preserve the health of its own and visitors.
“The decision to close was made to avoid the entry of more bathers. There was closure of roads at the height of Salgar, the entrance to Sabanilla and the highway ”, explained the official.
During the weekend, the entry of tourists to the resorts of Puerto Colombia was complied with in accordance with strict biosafety protocols, according to the measures that are in force to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Mobility in the Atlantic
At the end of the first weekend of the year, the transit authorities delivered a balance on the number of vehicles mobilized in the Atlantic.
According to information provided by the Traffic Section of the Atlantic Police, a total of 24,533 vehicles entered the department, while 28,843 more vehicles left between the first three days of the year.
In addition, 41 subpoenas were imposed and 11 vehicles were immobilized in the highway corridors of the department.
The transit authorities also held talks for vehicle drivers on the main roads of the Atlantic, as well as at the tolls in Sabanagrande, Baranoa and Puerto Colombia.
At these points, a campaign was carried out as well as active breaks, document verification and breathalyzer tests, in order to avoid accidents on the roads.
