The mayor of the capital pointed out on Blu Radio that she considers that the Ministry of Health was quick to carry out the process to integrate the Covax mechanism, which according to the minister of that portfolio guarantees 20 million doses of vaccines against COVID- 19 to Colombia (for 10 million people) in the second half of 2021, but believes that need to diversify.
What Claudia López said in the middle is that betting on a single vaccine, when there are several that are being developed in the world, is not beneficial for the country.
“My impression is that we are putting all the eggs in a single basket, and that in no business in life sounds good, nor is it sensible. I think we would be better off if we diversified a strategy. Not only because of the competition of the purchase, but because of the biological risk ”, said López.
However, the mayor of Bogotá acknowledged that the decision to choose which vaccine against COVID-19 to distribute in Colombia “is very complex,” and therefore says to value what the Government has done.
On the other hand, the mayor said in the interview that for now there is no vaccination strategy in Bogotá different from the one proposed by the Ministry of Health (first, health personnel, people over 60 years old and with comorbidities will be immunized). She already warned that by 2021 there will be no mass vaccination in the capital.
Next week there will be a meeting between mayors and the National Government to find out how this process will be faced and to know if, in the near future, cities will be able to acquire vaccines.
