Disagreements between telecom operators do not stop. Claro pointed out this Tuesday to Wom, the new operator that belongs to Novator Partners, of wanting to “circumvent the law” by trying to enter the country’s market in the category of entrant.
The company pointed out that this situation “would give it unjustified and reserved competitive advantages according to resolution 5108 of 2017 of the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC), for those operators that for the first time obtain spectrum to provide mobile phone service” .

Claro assured that in this case Wom should not go to this figure since they acquired Avantel, which has been in the Colombian market for more than seven years and has already received the benefit of the CRC for five years.
“Wom hopes to start operations ignoring all the country’s regulations, based on a non-binding query made to the Mintic in November 2019, which according to the criteria of this operator would give it access to rates with regulated discounts of National Automatic Roaming –RAN- in the networks of the other operators. The Colombian State would also be losing significant income from payments of rights to use frequencies and other taxes due to Wom’s requirement to be considered an incoming operator, ”Claro said.

In addition, the telecommunications company assured that with these benefits, Wom will be able to receive regulated discounts in national roaming and also a reduction in rights payments in the use of frequencies.
This is not the first discrepancy between the operators since the arrival of the company belonging to Novator Partners, last week Wom accused Tigo, Claro and Movistar of putting obstacles to interconnect to their networks.
“WOM made the requests allowed by law to establish voluntary commercial agreements with the operators to achieve interconnection and the interconnection contracts with Movistar, ETB and Avantel were achieved. However, These voluntary agreements were not concluded with the operators Claro, Tigo and UNE, so it was necessary to bring the controversy into the hands of the CRC”, He indicated.

At that time, Claro assured that “it was Partners who got up from the negotiation table and decided that it was the authority who would define the conditions and terms of the interconnection”
On the other hand, Tigo pointed out about this fact that “they found inconsistencies both in the data traffic calculations and in the management of the interconnection nodes” He added that Wom “requested that it be granted interconnection with the spectrum of the Avantel operator”, something that the company points out “is prohibited by Colombian regulations.”
