Munir Falah, president and CEO of Cine Colombia, called the decision “painful.” It was the largest investment for a Multiplex made in Colombia.
According to the manager, who sent several messages through his personal Twitter account, no agreement was reached with the landlord regarding the rental fee.
Only one year after the opening of the El Edén shopping center in Bogotá, Cine Colombia had to lose the investment made in the largest Multiplex in Colombia and one of the most modern theaters in Latin America.
“For Cine Colombia the retirement of the CC” El Edén ” It is very painful, because we made the largest investment made in Colombia for a Multiplex and it was only open to the public less than four months. It was the only complex in Latin America that had all possible film formats, “wrote businessman Munir Falah on his personal Twitter account.

According to the manager, the decision took place due to the lack of agreement with the lessor of the cinema space, located in the El Edén shopping center, built by Construcciones Planizadas and the trustor is Bienes y Comercio. Both companies are owned by the Sarmiento Angulo Organization.
“We all gave heart to this project, which was one of the best in the world”, lamented the czar of Colombian cinema.
Among all the decisions that Cine Colombia has had to make during this pandemic due to the extreme way in which it has been affected, this is one of the most painful.

In another message, Falah put the situation in context, where the multiplex was only operational for four months.

The spokesperson for Cine Colombia stated that he had to avail himself of decree 797 of 2020 which gave tenants the option to terminate the lease contracts, due to the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
To clarify multiple comments in relation to the Cine Colombia Multiplex in the “El Edén” Shopping Center, I want to confirm that there was no alternative but to rely on Decree 797 of 2020, and notify the landlord that the contract ended on July 31, 2020.

The foregoing because it was not possible to reach an agreement with the landlord regarding the rental fee, considering the effects of this pandemic for the cinema exhibition. It is publicly known that it is perhaps the most affected sector in the world due to COVID-19
