The announcement is made just a year after the rooms had to be closed due to the situation caused by covid-19 in the country.

Since that day, Cine Colombia has implemented various strategies to continue offering entertainment to Colombians, such as drive-ins in Bogotá, Cali, Medellín and other cities. Added to this was the sale of Cine Colombia meals both at home and in the vehicles that attend the drive-ins.

The company also launched the Cine Plus platform in June of last year, which allows you to rent or buy content. According to its website, the offer includes commercial films, Colombian cinema, art cinema, alternative content and documentaries.

Even with these efforts, 2020 was a difficult year for the cinema exhibition sector in the world. “In Colombia in 2020 the drop in the box office of the entire industry was 81.8% compared to 2019,” Falah said on his Twitter account based on information collected by Cadbox.

Along the same lines, cinema attendance in Colombia between March 15 and December 31, 2020 decreased by 98.6% compared to the same period in 2019.

Falah also revealed that, according to Cadbox, the number of films released in Colombia had been growing in recent years, but in 2020 this changed due to the coronavirus. While 371 films were released in 2019, in 2020 only 109 were released.
