As EL TIEMPO revealed in 2018, the pavilion, located at the back of the jail, only has two corridors with 20 cells. The last one was the one Garavito occupied, and it was separated from the rest by bars: a kind of double cell.

Back then, ‘The Beast’, as it is known, He did not even go out to sunbathe, for fear of putting his integrity at risk. He remained there weaving handcuffs, earrings and necklaces, activities that serve to redeem part of his sentence.

In fact, as a precaution, Garavito did not usually go out to seek medical attention when he needed it, but rather the doctor went to his cell to examine him. In exceptional cases, they locked up all the prisoners before leading this man through the corridors to the health post of the maximum security prison in Valledupar.
