With the agreement between Cerrejón and Sintracarbón, operations at the coal mine will be able to restart from December 1.

This Monday, the longest strike in Cerrejón’s history ended after the negotiating commissions of the company and Sintracarbón signed a new Collective Labor Agreement, in force between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2023.

“After the agreement reached, our priority now is to carry out a safe and responsible restart of operations. To make this possible, the contingency team, in addition to maintaining the assets during these months, has designed a plan that ensures compliance with strict security and control measures to protect the health of all our workers ”, explained Claudia Bejarano, president of Cerrejón .

Cerrejón has faced great challenges during 2020 due to the fall in coal prices, the reduction in demand worldwide and the pandemic caused by COVID-19.

The company hopes that the agreement will allow it to continue supporting the development of La Guajira and Colombia, by boosting the local, regional and national economy, at a time when the whole world faces great challenges.

After the signing of the Collective Labor Agreement, the operations of the mine will be able to resume from this December 1.
