In a debate cited by the opposition in Commission II of the Senate, it was denounced that the anti-corruption consultation voted in 2018 did reach its minimum vote, but that due to irregularities in the electoral roll it was denied.

According to Senator Iván Cepeda, from the Polo Democrático, “for several years the control bodies, particularly the Comptroller General of the Republic, have been warning serious irregularities in the electoral processes, and particularly in the composition and cleaning of the electoral roll. Everything indicates that the necessary measures have not been taken to address these repeated warnings. “

The congressman stated that “there are about 8 million inconsistencies detected in the electoral roll,” so in his opinion the last elections in the country have been affected by these problems and protruding inconsistencies in the census, especially the consultation anti-corruption of 2018.

For Cepeda, The irregularities are related to the fact that in Colombia people who have died, minors, people who did not renew their identity card, people who do not appear in the National Identification File, appear as authorized to vote, which is the source from which the voting cards emanate.

“The most significant have to do with there are active personnel of the Public Force included in the Electoral Census and who effectively vote, despite the constitutional and legal prohibition that exists for this population”, He denounced.

“The consultation did not have a real electoral census and, according to the information we have analyzed, the threshold of that consultation was far exceeded,” said the senator, for whom the actual electoral census at that time was 33,743,169 and not 36,421,026.

This difference implies that the real threshold for the anti-corruption inquiry was 11,247,723, not 12,140,342 as required. Therefore, the votes obtained in the consultation were sufficient, exceeding the threshold even by more than 427 thousand votes, which means that today its results must be fully valid and abide by the authorities ”, he concluded.

For his part, the national director of the Electoral Census of the Registrar’s Office, José Antonio Parra, said that all the irregularities that have been reported have already been corrected, “since this administration of Dr. Alexander Vega Rocha We have been carrying out a number of activities so that this electoral census is as real as possible, we have affected the citizenship cards of the deceased, of the members of the Public Force”.

He indicated that the Registry has been rigorously purifying the census in recent years. In 2015 they canceled more than a million cédulas, in 2016 and 2017 there were more than 700,000 and in 2018 and 2019 it exceeded one million documents.
