Cali: Police sergeant died when confronting criminals

The police sergeant identified as Darwin Fernández Chávez, died when confronting a group of robbers in the southeast of the city of Cali.

According to preliminary information, the uniformed officers of the El Guabal Police Station, were alerted to the presence of some men who were mobilizing in a vehicle and who minutes before had stolen a jewelry store from the El Limonar neighborhood.

In the persecution there was an exchange of shots and at the height of the Independencia neighborhood, the mayor died after receiving a firearm impact.

Meanwhile, it was known that the authorities managed to arrest two people, while one of those responsible was killed and another was injured, and was taken to a medical center under police custody.

Those captured in the event were transferred to a station of the institution and it is known that one of them had recently been released from prison.

Likewise, it was known that the victim in the case was the head of the surveillance shift at the El Guabal station, where he had been transferred a few days ago, after working in the Aguablanca District, east of the capital of Valle del Cauca. The uniformed man had the time of service for his retirement from the police institution.

His colleagues remember him as a helpful person, with a vocation and respect, they mourned his death.

In the next few hours, the two detainees in the case will be presented before a judge of guarantees and which the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation could charge them with the crimes of homicide, theft and carrying weapons.

Also, the Police try to establish the value of the jewels that were stolen in the commercial establishment.
