Bogota restaurant, in the top 10 of the 50 best in Latin America

Two places further back, in 27th place, is ‘Leo’, by chef Leonor Espinosa, who in past years won the award for best cook in Latin America.

The other Colombian restaurant on the list of the best in the region, which is part of the well-known The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, is Celele from Cartagena, which ranked 49th in its first appearance on the list.

The first place was taken by the grill of Buenos Aires, Argentina, ‘Don Julio’, while the country that occupied the most positions in the top 10 (with 3 restaurants) was Peru, followed by Argentina and Mexico, with 2 each; and Colombia, Brazil and Chile, the other 3 countries with at least one representative in the top 10.

‘El Chato’, in Bogotá, is located in zone G, in the Quinta Camacho neighborhood, an area that for more than a decade has positioned itself as the point of the most sought-after gourmet restaurants in the city and the country.

It is the third time in a row that ‘El Chato’ has been awarded on the list (it was also awarded in 2018 and 2019), according to the restaurant’s website. Its menu varies between seafood and meat dishes, with unique house sauces and preparations.

For her part, Colombian chef Leonor Espinosa was recognized by the same publication with the ‘Estrella Damm Chefs’ Choice Award’, among this list of special awards.

“With a strong sense of social responsibility and a humble attitude, Leonor Espinosa has become a benchmark for her peers in Latin America,” says the economic newspaper La República, in relation to the special award received by the Colombian chef, “the the only award voted by chefs in the list of the 50 best restaurants in Latin America ”.
