Bogotá: No new Bronx will be allowed in downtown – Bogotá

Mayor Claudia López said Thursday that a “new Bronx” will not be allowed to form in downtown Bogotá. The statement was made during a tour of various sites in the center of the city, including the Bronx neighborhood, the San Bernardo neighborhood and the Cinco Huecos area.

In the San Bernardo area, located in front of the Tercer Milenio park, the Urban Renovation Company (ERU) is carrying out a renovation project. There, 3,946 homes will be built that will benefit more than 13,000 people.

In this sector of downtown Bogotá, the District Administration is investing 127,000 million pesos in the purchase of 340 properties, of which 197 have already been acquired.

The tour included the area of ​​Cinco Huecos and at this point the mayor asked the Secretary of Security redouble efforts with operations to guarantee the
tranquility of the merchants and inhabitants.

The president also visited the recruiting battalion that will be part of the new Bronx Creative District, which will promote creativity and innovation. This project will have a total intervention area of ​​35,000 square meters, of which 29,000 correspond to the District buildings; and the other 6,000 square meters will be used for public space.

In a tweet the president wrote: “Today we are building on what was built with @BronxDC_Bogota, a space that will become a setting for the development of creative, cultural, social and economic initiatives for our city “.

In this sector, two Assets of cultural interest have been allocated for this great project: the Recruitment Battalion (12,000 m2), and the La Flauta building (1,341 m2). To these is added the covered public space known as La Milla (2,727 m2), which connects the two buildings.

First aid works that have already been awarded will be carried out in the Flute and will be delivered in April 2021. In November of this year the process for studies and designs will be opened for the adaptation of the public space “La Milla”, which will have an investment of 2,400 million pesos.

The rehabilitation of these Assets of Cultural Interest will generate around 1,536 jobs (640 direct and 896 indirect).

López toured the premises of the old Bronx street, where the new headquarters of the Los Mártires Local Mayor’s Office will be built, which will provide better spaces for citizen service. “This is a project that triggers all the renovation of the center, because it will attract people, services and this is what we need to completely revitalize this area”, affirmed the president.

In this same street will be born “Bronx: center of creative talent”, a building on the Seine that will house an academic offer of more than 30 technical and complementary programs related to cultural and creative industries, with an allocation of resources for 82,400 million pesos.

“The Seine is our great ally, we want to train young people in the occupations of the XXI century, here they will find printing industries, textile manufacturing, bilingualism, among others,” he said.

In addition, it will have a 24-hour service offer and a care center for women with a nursery, laundry and community kitchens. The building will have 44 classrooms with specialized environments such as multiple court, music studio, performing arts workshop, camera and light operation, conventional computer and bilingual classrooms, generating 300 direct and indirect jobs.

The tour ended at the Basilica of the National Vow, where the third phase of restoration of the church is progressing, which includes conservation and structural consolidation works of the central nave, side naves, crypt and the rounds. The Basilica has already opened its doors to parishioners and tourists, in total the work has had an investment of more than $ 16,000 million.

To these projects are added other works that will change the face of downtown Bogota, such as the San Juan de Dios hospital complex, the first Metro Line, the development of the San Victorino International Trade Center, the Paseo Comercial Bronx, among others.
