Owning a home is one of the main New Year’s resolutions. Despite the complex economic outlook the country is going through, Colombians can still apply for government subsidies for housing. Particularly in Bogota, citizens have the option of applying to a concurrence of subsidies and thus increase these aid.

Such is the case of the Complementary Housing Subsidy, which is administered by the District Secretary for Habitat and through which households that receive up to two minimum wages can obtain subsidies of up to 60 minimum wages.

Data obtained by The viewer They detail that for this year the District has more than $ 13,632 million for this supplementary subsidy, with which about 1,600 families would benefit.

As its name indicates, this subsidy is complementary, so it can be added to others such as that of My house now, which is the one granted by the National Government, and those offered by the different family compensation funds. Similarly, these subsidies may only be applied to housing Vip (of no more than 80 minimum wages) and VIS (of no more than 150 minimum wages).

Please note that, to apply, household income cannot exceed 4 minimum wages ($ 3’634,104), have not previously received government subsidies, not be reported to credit bureaus, and not be a homeowner in the entire National territory.

Thus, households with incomes of up to two minimum wages ($ 1,817,052) may receive 30 minimum wages (on behalf of the Mi Casa Ya subsidy) plus ten minimum wages from the Supplementary Housing Subsidy. This adds up to 40 minimum wages ($ 36,341,040), which is equivalent to almost a third of what a VIS home is worth, or almost half of a VIP (although in Bogotá there are few Priority Interest Homes).

Households with incomes between two and four minimum wages may receive 20 minimum wages from Mi Casa Ya and 8 minimum wages from the Supplementary Housing Subsidy, thus adding 28 minimum wages ($ 25′438,728).

Finally, there are the citizens affiliated with a compensation fund. Those who earn no more than two minimum wages can receive 30 minimum wages from the compensation fund, 20 minimum wages from Mi Casa Ya and ten minimum wages from the Supplementary Housing Subsidy. Everything adds up to 60 times the minimum wage ($ 54′,511,560).

How to apply?

The first thing to do is go to a VIS or VIP home sales room. Here the citizen can choose the project that interests him the most. The second thing is to separate the house with the construction company of the chosen project (In some they can ask for up to $ 2,000,000 for this separation and develop a payment plan in installments to meet the initial 30% fee).

Subsequently, you must approach a bank (the one that the person prefers) to apply for a mortgage loan. Here you must inform that you want to apply to the district housing subsidy that complements that of Mi Casa Ya, you must also inform if you have a subsidy from the family compensation fund.

Finally, the bank will inform the interested party if the mortgage loan was approved, if so, it will assign the subsidies and, depending on the value of the home, it will apply a special coverage in the interest rate.

According to data from Camacol, the construction of VIS housing in Bogotá continues to increase, so it is not necessary to travel to the outskirts of the city to find this type of project. This makes many feel more motivated to fulfill their dream of owning a home.
