In a video she shared on Twitter, the mayor says that she made the decision because she does not want to repeat what has happened with other activities of the holiday season:

“Learning the lesson of what happened to us, very unfortunate, the day we turned on the Christmas lights, we prefer this year and due to the pandemic to cancel the night cycle path that was scheduled for this Thursday, December 10”.

The president said it could be “an unnecessary risk of crowds” during the pandemic.

However, López reiterated the invitation to citizens to participate in other scheduled activities of what his administration called ‘Bogotá Shines’, in the 20 towns of the city.

According to him, he distributed the events with the participation of more than 1,500 artists throughout the city: “We have fewer lights in the streets but more artists working in neighborhoods and towns, in parks, distributed throughout the city and not in a big event to avoid crowds”.

Finally, the president made a call to continue with the care and biosecurity measures to avoid greater risks of contagion.

“We cannot lower our guard or take unnecessary risks. We are supporting formal and informal merchants, so they can close the year with the best possible sales. That is why we have ‘Bogotá a Cielo Abierto’, ‘Bogotá 24 Horas’ and I invite you to participate and take advantage of it, always taking care of ourselves and with the necessary biosecurity measures ”, he concluded.

This is the announcement of the president of Bogota:
