Minute by minute of the case

Although a video has circulated on social networks showing the moment of the confrontation, EL TIEMPO met a recording that shows what happened minutes before.

Security camera recordings show how a man in a red T-shirt runs out of a house and meets a police officer in the street. They apparently argue and the man picks up a large object from the ground and throws it at the agent. At that moment, two dogs come out and surround the uniformed man.

So the video cuts out.

Then comes another more complete video, which lasts 3 minutes 42 seconds and which shows how the same man in a red shirt, in a high degree of ambience, shouts at a group of the Police: “I’m going to kill them.” In the background, a woman is heard asking, “Where is the dog?”

The woman recording the video asks the man to calm down and enter the house. In the middle of that, the man claims that a uniformed man “shot the dog.”

In the middle of the confusing images it is seen how the group of citizens is already inside the house, when the agents try to enter. The next image is of a dog on the ground, bleeding.

Then chaos breaks out. Different people start screaming and crying. Then, the sound of a machete against the ground is heard: the man who was drunk confronts the Police. Finally, the shots come from the side of the uniformed men and, apparently, one of them hits the man in the abdomen.

The family version

EL TIEMPO contacted the woman who appears in the video. She says the situation started when her husband’s daughter and her boyfriend were walking the dog in front of the house. The animal barked at a man who passed by on a motorbike and he returned to attack him. However, this version does not match the first video.

Then, he says, three shots were heard: two of them hit the dog, according to versions of the victim.

The man, he says, was a plainclothes policeman. When the entire family went out to see what was happening, reinforcements arrived, already in uniform.

At that moment, her husband came out, intoxicated: the family was drinking liquor inside the house. “He was hysterical because the dog had been killed,” says the woman.

Later, what was recorded in the video happened: the discussion in the street and at the entrance of the door, the discovery of the dog’s body and the confrontation.

The woman confirmed that her husband was wounded by one of the projectiles. He was transferred on a patrol to Kennedy Hospital where, at the moment, he is still hospitalized.

What do the authorities say?

The Police Commander, General Óscar Gómez Heredia, spoke about the events: “A case was presented in which the citizens requested the presence of the Police, because a subject was in a state of intoxication and threatening dogs. When the patrol arrived (…) he was attacked by this subject with blunt objects, stones, and they are attacked by pit bull dogs. Before which the uniformed man proceeds to defend himself, to use his endowment weapon, which causes an injury to one of the animals. ”

He explains that, although the man was returned to the house by his family, he went out again “with a sharp weapon and began to attack the policemen. This subject attacks a uniformed man who came to support: thanks to his bulletproof vest he manages to save his He reacts with his endowment weapon, managing to reduce it. ”

Bulletproof vest

This is how the uniformed vest was left.

Then, the same agents give him first aid and take him to the hospital.

“The Command ordered to open an investigation to clarify what happened,” said Gómez.
