Balloon with gunpowder exploded against a house in Bello, Antioquia

In Bello, north of the Aburrá Valley, there was a serious act of irresponsibility that almost caused a tragedy in the Mesa neighborhood, when several people failed to lift a balloon loaded with gunpowder.

On video was recorded the anguishing moment when a group of men tries to raise the huge incandescent wick balloon, while dozens of onlookers remain in the street watching.

The artifact moved from one side to another by the currents of air, while the irresponsible added a basket loaded with gunpowder and lit the fuse.

However, instead of rising, the balloon ended up falling on one of the roofs of the houses, threatening other houses and people, including minors who were on the street.

The curious began to run to avoid being hit by the explosion of gunpowder.

There were no injuries in the event, but the authorities warned that they are looking for those responsible.

“We ask all citizens and we call for their attention to take these measures (curfew) with responsibility, since we cannot have 700 thousand police officers to take care of each of the inhabitants”, said Daniela Ortega, Bello’s Secretary of Security.

On the other hand, in the town of San Antonio de Prado in Medellín, another balloon caused an emergency. The rectory of the parish was destroyed by a fire.

“The intervention of the firefighters was opportune to avoid this and we are regretting this loss, since this is a historical piece that the city was in charge of,” said General Eliécer Camacho, commander of the Metropolitan Police.

During the night and early morning of the New Year, lThe authorities made 228 appearances and received 11,250 calls for breach of the curfew decree.

Regarding the number of gunpowder burns, there were four cases in Medellín and eight in the rest of Antioquia.

In December, a total of 60 injuries were registered, of which 24 were minors.
