This Monday, the Secretary of Education of Bogotá shed light on the reactivation of schools (public and private) and higher education institutions in the capital. The plan was called GPS: as this is a new Gradual, Progressive and Safe (GPS) opening.

The regulation process, pilots and adjustments will take place between September and December so that, in 2021, the return of face-to-face classes will begin in good shape and with all the adjustments.
First of all, it must be taken into account that there are differences between private and public schools and that, again, the entire process will be voluntary and concerted.
This is the preliminary schedule to reopen the institutions:
September
– Beginning of the gradual, progressive and safe reopening in kindergartens and private schools, IES-IETDH in a voluntary and concerted manner.
– Application of instruments and dialogue in official schools
During this month the registration and voluntary reopening of kindergartens and private schools, Institutions of Higher Education and Institutions of Education for Work and Human Development will be carried out.
Likewise, they will hold sessions with school governments and with families to agree on the processes of the eventual reopening of official schools.
It is important that you fill out the forms:
– For the characterization of the schools of Bogotá.
– For families.
– For young.
– Voluntary form for teaching directors and official teachers.

Kindergartens and private schools
It will be allowed on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday without time restriction and a presence of 35% of all students will be allowed.
Institutions of Higher Education IES – Institutions of Education for Work and Human Development IETDH
This activity will be allowed exclusively on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday with time restrictions in two bands: from 10 am to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 10 pm In addition, a presence of 25% of the total number of students will be allowed.

October:
– Pilots for the gradual, staggered and safe reopening in official (public) schools: according to epidemiological conditions and the willingness of the parties.
Likewise, the Ministry of Education stressed that this will be done with the consent of the families and that they will carry out a broad and massive test by the District Secretary of Health before the reopening in pilot cases.

The consultation will be held from September 7 to 30, time in which it will be held:
– Dialogue with the educational community, reading the guidelines and contributions.
– A joint decision on the reopening will be made within the framework of the school government.
– The protocols will be adjusted to the institutional realities, either to return in 2020 or 2021.

November:
The Ministry of Education assured that it will make an evaluation and an assessment of the gradual reopening and implementation of a daily, weekly and monthly monitoring system.
In addition, they will take into account the case studies and systematization of the experience.
December:
This month they will define the 2021 action plan adjusted to the new reality.
Throughout the process there will be variables to evaluate, such as:
– Number of qualified teachers.
– Approval or consent of the families.
– Adaptations and conditioning of infrastructure.
– Mobility.
In this way, operational adjustments will be made at the institutional, local and district levels for the new school year and the results of the assessment will be published.
