President Iván Duque reacted this Saturday to the announcement of the Farc party to publicly acknowledge its responsibility in the assassination of the conservative leader Álvaro Gómez.
The head of state assured that “adjudicating those crimes, when there are already guarantees that no one is going to pay jail time, does not stop generating doubts, suspicions, and concerns.

The president added that his wish is that this crime be clarified and that there be no doubt. “Obviously, that justice fulfills its task, but also that it is not going to allow one way to try to obstruct the true responsibility behind that assassination,” said the president.
In addition, he pointed out that if someone claims this death and it does not correspond to the truth, it should be understood “that a crime is being committed to obstruct justice in our country. We want justice to act with forceful promptness and not to reject any of the considerations, nor in the statements that Álvaro Gómez’s family has also made about what they claim must be investigated so that the truth is known, “he said. .
Duque was emphatic that Colombians want justice in this case. “That justice do what it has to do, that the special justice hear the testimonies that it has to hear, but that the justice that has been conducting in-depth investigations does not stop doing them and that afterwards they compare what the circumstances really are like” , he pointed.
