Last September, Avianca reported that it would no longer need the full initial loan, which amounted to 370 million pesos, but that it would need 240 million. This will be forgotten this Thursday by the decision that the company will announce in the next few hours of not making use of said financing by Colombia, the same one that unleashed so much criticism.
Vice Minister Londoño explained that this occurs because he found other agents to obtain financing and recover from the crisis he faces.
“With Avianca’s credit, the answer is that it doesn’t exist. The airline has already filed for US Bankruptcy Court without the Nation and we are not involved in the reorganization process; the judge approved it without the resources of the Nation. Avianca is already working on its reorganization and did not require that loan, “said Londoño, in an interview with La República.
In addition to this, the official explained that, after the ruling of the Cundinamarca Court, the possibility of the Nation disbursing said millionaire loan was stopped and it was the last option Avianca had. “And they didn’t need us,” emphasized the official.
Avianca loan: what will happen to the money?
Asked by that same newspaper about what will happen to the money then and if it will be used to finance companies in other sectors affected by the crisis, the vice minister said that they will help companies that are strategic for the country.
“But we put the condition that they have to reorganize because, in the case of a loan, its viability must be guaranteed, that the market sees that it can be saved and that the money does not go to the shareholders, but to the operation,” he said. the official.
Given the news that Avianca will not need the loan, several voices have already arisen to ask that said money be used to contribute to territorial entities. The mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, did not miss the opportunity and put on the table a loan for his city.
“If Avianca is not going to use the credit provided by the National Government, they may well direct it to Territorial Entities such as the Mayor’s Office of Cali, who has the powers to assume it and ideal credit conditions, however we want it at a low rate in the long term and dead period “Said the Cali official via Twitter.
This is the trill of the mayor of Cali:
