Authorities recover property of the nation illegally occupied in the Tayrona Natural Park

National Natural Parks of Colombia reported, this Tuesday, November 10, that in Tayrona National Park a property was recovered by the authorities owned by the nation that had been illegally occupied by “influential and recognized” families from the region.

This property, which is part of the Heritage of the nation and that it was declared a reserved wasteland and integrated into Tayrona Park in 1975, It was illegally occupied by “influential and recognized families of the region” who had built infrastructure for recreation and tourism without having any permission from the environmental authority or authorization.

According to technical studies carried out by the environmental entity, these “Interventions have affected primitive, intelligible and natural recovery areas of the protected area”, which according to Natural Parks generated serious impacts on the ecosystem such as the generation of waste and dumping and the felling of trees.

At the same time, which caused detachment and rupture of corals in the marine area by boats, among other damages.

National Parks filed a “police complaint for disturbance of possession and invasion of a protected area, for de facto occupation” before the Directorate of Police Affairs and Regulation of Public Space of the city of Santa Marta for the illegal occupation of a property in the sectors of Bonito Gordo Beach and Granate Beach in Tayrona Park.

This diligence was coordinated with the support of the Delegate Attorney for Environmental and Agrarian Affairs, the National Police, the municipal authorities of Santa Marta, the Coast Guard of the National Navy, Family Welfare, the Personería and National Parks.

For its part, the environmental entity assured that with the recovery of this property of 3,409 hectares and 2000 square meters, a coastal floodplain ecosystem restoration Y dry tropical forest that is considered a critical level of threat, because only 1% remains in the country.

Similarly, the entity plans the recovery of water sources that were intervened in its cause altering the ecosystems of this area of ​​the Natural Park.

Likewise, Parque Nacionales mentioned that the recovery of this property in the protected area of ​​Tayrona Park demonstrates a commitment of the Public Ministry, local authorities and the public force, which shows that the articulated work allows “To reestablish the possession of a good State destined to the conservation and preservation of the ecosystems of the Natural Park”.

The environmental entity and the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation defined an action plan since 2019 to recover the real estate of the Nation that has been illegally occupied within the Tayrona Park.
