During the morning and noon of this Sunday, users of the Medellín metro reported delays in the passage of trains and crowds in some stations of the system, especially on line A and in those north of the Aburrá Valley.

In this regard, the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero Calle, explained that the railway line of Line A suffered an undermining as a result of the heavy rains registered in the last hours in the city, so repairs are being advanced that, according to him, it may take several days.

“Due to rains, scour occurred that affected the subway rail line near Acevedo station. There is a restriction with a single train between Acevedo and Niquía every 20 minutes. Repairs will require several days, we are working with the Metro and Metropolitan Area of Valle de Aburrá to assess the situation and create a contingency plan, ”said the president on his Twitter account.

For its part, the mass transport company assured in its social networks that while these works are being carried out on Line A (which connects Niquía with La Estrella), the operation presents modifications and a more delayed passage of trains.

The Metro explained to EL COLOMBIANO that the operation is being developed in parts between the La Estrella and Acevedo stations, and for the section between Acevedo and Niquía there is a train that runs every 30 minutes.

“It is as a precaution at this time we are reviewing the area of the scour. Until the on-site review is done and the work to follow is known, we will not be able to report how long the arrangements will take, but it may be for several days, ”said the mass transportation company.

Given the risk that the Medellín metro will operate with series of restrictions in the coming days, the system told this media that “service would be provided by a single railroad, every 20 minutes. Then a train leaves from Acevedo and travels to Niquía, by the opposite route, and then it returns, but the frequency of the maneuvers is delayed 20 minutes. A plan has already been activated with the Metropolitan Area so that bus routes support mobility ”.

Due to this situation, users reported an accumulation of passengers at the Acevedo station, waiting for the trains to pass, which has represented an agglomeration of people in this public transport system.

Through social networks, several users shared images reporting the delay in the passage of trains and the dozens of people waiting to decongest Acevedo station.

Additionally, users continue to report that the trains have an increase in the number of passengers, and it is expected that throughout the day they will continue to report on the progress of the repairs.
