Murder of youth

The families of the murdered youths suffered for years from the absence of their loved ones.

They were held against their will, assassinated and their bodies abandoned in a wooded area in the town of Usaquén.

Today, according to the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, based on the overwhelming probative material and the arguments presented by the Attorney General of the Nation, the Ninth Criminal Court of the Specialized Circuit of Bogotá Fabián Andrés Garzón Hilarión sentenced to 43 years and 6 months in prison for his participation in the disappearance and death of three adolescents in the town of Usaquén, north of the city, in February 2017.

The ruling declared the defendant responsible for the crimes of aggravated forced disappearance, aggravated homicide; manufacture, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition aggravated; and qualified and aggravated theft. Additionally, it imposed a fine of 7,999 monthly legal minimum wages in force. The events that led to the sentence occurred on February 22, 2017, in the San Cristóbal Norte neighborhood.

According to the investigators, the three youths were mobilizing in a vehicle and transporting a market to the Cerro Norte neighborhood in the same town. The testimonies collected show that they were intercepted to steal their car, held against their will, murdered and their bodies dumped in a wooded area.

The verifications carried out at the time facilitated the location of the car 10 days after the disappearance was reported. The car was modified in appearance and plaque, and had been sold. On October 31, 2019, the Prosecutor’s Office obtained the prosecution of Garzón Hilarión. Since then, he has been deprived of liberty in a prison.

On December 14, during the preparatory hearing, the Prosecutor’s Office requested to vary the sense of the diligence in order, instead, to verbalize a preliminary agreement that was reached with the accused and his defender. In this preliminary agreement, the defendant accepted his responsibility, whose only benefit was to assess the penalty.
