According to Semana, the colonel was admitted to hospital in July at the Bucaramanga Cardiovascular Clinic as a result of a very high fever due to the COVID-19 virus; further, he had problems and complications with his kidney and very strong bacteria on his skin, which ended up causing his death.
The media stressed that the colonel served as commander of the 30th Brigade of Cúcuta until last August, month in which his commanders decided to relieve him of his position because he had been hospitalized for many days.
President Iván Duque regretted the death of the colonel through his Twitter account, highlighting that he was “a hero of the country” with 28 years of service in the country.

“Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. We will pray to God for strength to be with you. His leadership will always be remembered, and the best tribute to his memory will be to continue working with honor for Colombia, ”said the Army commander in another trill.
